The Great District Seat Kulmbach

The economic area of Kulmbach with its high quality of life is the ideal basis for entrepreneurial success:
Good commercial zone planning, low taxes and fees and its location between freeways A 9 and A 70 that is convenient for traffic connections, offer the best prerequisites for companies to decide in favor of the site Kulmbach.

Economic site with quality and diversity

Kulmbach enjoys world renown as the "secret beer capital" (seat of the Kulmbacher Brewery AG) and as the third largest food processing center in Bavaria. This is particularly due to the export oriented firms IREKS GmbH and Raps GmbH & Co. KG and to the significant research and training facilities of the Max Rubner Institute (Federal Research Institute for Nutrition and Food, Institute for Safety and Quality in Meat) and the Kern (Competence center of nutrition). Starting in July 2009 the Research Agency for Food Quality of the University of Bayreuth at the Max Rubner Institute will begin operation. Other important bodies that belong to the Food Center are the CENAS AG (Center for Food Safety) and in the educational area the State Technical College for Food Technology as well as the Academy for Nutrition. Highly respected in the areas of environment and energy among others are the firms Glen Dimplex Deutschland GmbH, ASK GmbH & Co. KG and AGO AG Energie + Anlagen. Kulmbach is the seat of the Bavarian State Office for the Environment and of the Energy Agency for Upper Franconia. In February 2009 the biotech company Roche Kulmbach GmbH was distinguished as the recipient of the Economic Prize 2008 of the city of Kulmbach.

Tradition and innovation - these are qualities that Kulmbach stands for!

Sunrise industries such as the media industry with the Academy for New Media, the Deutsche Anleger Fernsehen (a TV station dedicated to stock markets), the Media Exchange Ltd., Radio Plassenburg, the Media House Baumann and the TV film production company KAMA Media GmbH are also well established in Kulmbach. New, innovative and young agencies are always being set up, such as Dynamic Commerce or the excellents GmbH. A recurring picture in Kulmbach is the work of young companies in old, historic buildings. Here tradition and modernity are ideally combined.
The Klinikum Kulmbach is classified as "hospital of care level II according to the revised version of the BayKrG (Bavarian Hospital Law) of March 28, 2008" and it is among the most prominent employers in the economic region of Kulmbach with round about 3.600 employees.

The great district seat of Kulmbach is characterized by its strikingly beautiful location in the midst of the Franconian Forest, the Fichtelgebirge, Franconian Switzerland and the Upper Maintal in the Bavarian administrative region of Upper Franconia. Situated at the confluence of the rivers Red Main and White Main, Kulmbach with its historical Old Town, is famous well beyond its borders for the Plassenburg with its Tin Figures Museum.

New upswing as university city

The newly founded Faculty of Life Sciences: Food, Nutrition and Health of the University of Bayreuth will be established on a new site campus in Kulmbach. The core idea behind the plans for the University of Bayreuth's seventh Faculty is a perspective based on the natural sciences, a methodological revolution in biosciences, and modern conceptions of economics, law, social sciences, and behavioural sciences. The combination of these disciplines in a way that has not yet been realized in Germany is reflected in research and teaching on the new location called Campus in Kulmbach: Through efficient, interdisciplinary research, fundamental insights can be gained and corresponding social initiatives developed. Innovative, internationally oriented Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes will be established.

Traffic connections

Kulmbach is ideally connected both to regional and national highway networks via freeways A 70 and A 9 as well as via federal highways B 85 and B 289.
The public airfield of the city of Kulmbach has been gaining in importance with the local business community. It can be used by airplanes with a total weight of up to 5.7 t.
